Our work is about one thing above all else – the individual development of your child. Kent-Meridian Co-op Preschool has an amazing team of educators. We have both teachers for the classroom and parent educators for the break-away parent ed sessions. We're proud of our staff members and all that they do.
Cindy - Teacher
I am excited to be back at KM this year. I am a Mom of two and, when I am not teaching, I love spending as much time as I can with my two grandchildren. This will be my 17th year here at KM and my 30th year of teaching co-op, working with kids from birth to Pre-K. Having participated in co-op with my own two grown children I have personally seen the benefits that come from belonging to a co-op. The sense of ownership and community is a wonderful aspect of being a part of a co-op. I feel like I get to know not only the children in my class but their families as well. I will be teaching the three’s class this year. I am looking forward to a great year and seeing some familiar faces this fall.
Cris - Teacher
Hi, my name is Cris McCartin. I am the 1 year old Red Class teacher. This will be my fourth year teaching at the co-op. I also went through the co-op with my now 17 year old son, from the White, Baby & Mom class on through to the 4’s Purple pre-k class. All five years I served on the co-op board. I have lived in Kent for 25 years & my husband has served here as a public servant for 40 years. Working with the community & surrounding communities' children is a passion & great privilege that I have enjoyed doing for the last 20 years. Teaching children through play, music, art, worm collecting, & making messes is an honor. Watching your children grow, learn, & excel throughout the school year is of great importance. Making lifelong friends with families is priceless.
Jen - Teacher/Parent Educator
My name is Jen Hartvickson. I currently am a preschool teacher and parent ed instructor here at KM Co-op. I have been a teacher/parent Ed instructor at KM for the last 12 years and my daughter and I were members of the school for the 5 years prior to that.
I am a strong believer in all the benefits of a play based, parent involved preschool. Not only will your child have a great start to their education here at KM, but you, as a parent, will benefit as well. The KM community will become not only a source of knowledge and support for you and your child, but some of my best friends are still Co-op parents I met 17 years ago. I have a degree in mathematics from the UW and worked as a Computing System Administrator prior to having my daughter. I also teach exercise classes at 24 Hour Fitness. I hope your Co-op experience will be as wonderful as mine has been.
Susanne - Teacher/Parent Educator
My name is Susanne Brach, and I have been a teacher at KM Co-op for the last 16 years. I have taught almost all of the age groups here at KM over the past years, and currently I am a Parent Education instructor for several of the classes. This will be my 8th year as a Parent Ed instructor. I have a BA degree in Child Development, and have worked with children for the last 30 years. I have two daughters who went to this preschool—they are now 19 and 21 years of age. I embrace the co-op philosophy and believe children learn best through play. I look forward to working with families, talking through your “burning questions” about parenting, and watching your children grow and learn this coming year!
Natascha - Teacher
Hello my name is Natascha Whiteman and I will be the Purple Class teacher for the 2019 – 2020 school year! I am a military spouse who has lived all over the country & a parent of 3, my youngest just finishing Purple Class herself this past year! The Co-Op experience was so wonderful and I am very eager to come back next year as a teacher. I am currently finishing my degree to become an elementary education teacher and previously ran my own home daycare and preschool. I highly believe in play based early childhood education; play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning. As a teacher I have strong interests in curriculum which explores cultures around the world, nature and teaching every child they are special and worthy of love and learning. As my childhood hero, Mr. Fred Rogers says about education “a love of learning has a lot to do with learning we’re loved” I am incredibly grateful to spend another year at KM Co-Op; preserving the essential bond between parent and child during preschool years is an honor I do not take for granted. Every year I work with children I learn more about the child I was and the person who is always striving to grow within me.
